The highly anticipated seventh season of the hit historical drama “Outlander” is set to premiere on Starz on Friday, June 16. This season marks a significant turning point in the storyline as the American Revolution takes center stage, following several seasons of brewing rebellion.
The penultimate season consists of a total of 16 episodes, but it will be released in two parts. The first eight episodes will be available on June 16, with the remaining half scheduled to air in 2024. The season continues from where Season 6 left off, with Claire (Caitriona Balfe) facing imprisonment for the murder of Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds). The situation is dire for Claire and Jamie (Sam Heughen), who are both grappling with the tumultuous events of the revolution.
Jamie’s mission is to save his wife, Claire, who begins the season in prison awaiting a trial. Heughen emphasized that the world of Jamie and Claire has been completely shattered, and their circumstances are drastically different from what they’re used to. As they embark on this journey, they will encounter a world in turmoil due to the upcoming revolution. However, Jamie’s determination to find Claire remains unwavering.
Season 7 is based on the seventh book in Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling “Outlander” series, titled “An Echo in the Bone.” While Claire and Jamie remain central to the storyline, series regulars such as Sophie Skelton (Brianna) and Richard Rankin (Roger MacKenzie) will have significant roles in the upcoming episodes. The season also introduces two new characters from the original book series: Joey Phillips as Dr. Denzell Hunter and Izzy Meikle-Small as his sister Rachel Hunter.
Apart from Claire’s challenging situation, the plot of the season will revolve around the American Revolution and the ensuing war. This historical backdrop will lead the Frasers away from their home, and Claire’s words in the trailer suggest that Jamie’s involvement in the revolution may be inevitable, despite her hopes to the contrary. The season promises to be a thrilling continuation of the “Outlander” series, with its signature blend of historical drama, romance, and adventure.
