Draymond Green suspended indefinitely for striking Jusuf Nurkic

Draymond Green, a key player for the Golden State Warriors, has been suspended indefinitely for striking Jusuf Nurkić, the center of the Phoenix Suns, after his team’s loss to the Suns by a score of 119-116 on December 12.

According to Wojnarowski and Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, Green is anticipated to undergo counseling as a component of the requirements that must be met before he would be permitted to return to the court:

This information comes from Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, who reports that Green will be permitted to participate in team practices while he is suspended.

The final consequences of the ban were detailed by Bobby Marks of ESPN. Green was judged to have committed a flagrant two foul and was subsequently dismissed from the game during the third quarter. This occurred when Green swung his right arm and smacked Nurkić in the face.

Immediately following the game, the four-time All-Star expressed his regret and stated that the blow was an accident.

“I am not one to apologize for things I mean to do, but I do apologize to Jusuf because I didn’t intend to hit him,” according to his statement to media. “I sell calls with my arms … so I was selling the call … and I swung and unfortunately I hit him.”

On the other hand, the fact that Green has been a serial offender throughout his NBA career and that this was already his third ejection of the 2023-24 season did not help Green’s case very much. In November, he was given a five-game suspension for putting Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert in a headlock during a fight between the two teams. The incident occurred during a clash between the two teams.
After the incident, the 33-year-old player made his first public statement, saying, “I don’t live my life with regrets.” He also made a reference to meetings he had with officials from the organization.

It is generally agreed upon by all of us that I will continue to be myself regardless of the circumstances. It is not going to be different,” he reiterated to the press.

“However, despite the fact that this is true, there is always a more effective approach to accomplish things. Therefore, it is a matter of working out a more effective method. Each and every one of us agrees with that statement.

After the Suns game, Kerr seemed to make reference to those discussions as well, although he seemed to strike a different tone than before. In addition to highlighting Green’s importance to the team, he stated that the veteran striker needs to “find a way to keep his poise” when he is playing with the team.
There have been previous seasons in which Golden State has been able to move forward with championship aspirations despite the fact that Green has been out for extended periods of time each season. However, that time has since gone, and the Big Three, which consists of him, Stephen Curry, and Klay Thompson, are all now in their mid-30s.

At 10-13, the Warriors are now ranked eleventh in the Western Conference. Prior to the 2022 NBA playoffs, it was prematurely predicted that their dynasty would come to an end; nevertheless, it appears that the window of opportunity has now closed for good.

It seems unlikely that Green’s suspension will be of any assistance to Golden State in the near future as the team works toward moving up into the top six ranking.
