Dez Bryant: Bill Belichick prohibited Ezekiel Elliott from returning to the Cowboys.

To the Cowboys, Bill Belichick, with whom? In the wake of the Packers’ shocking 48-32 victory over Dallas, which instantly put the question of whether or not Mike McCarthy will return to his position as head coach of the Cowboys under sharp examination, speculation began to circulate regarding the likelihood even before the clock reached quadruple zero. It has been believed that veteran Patriots head coach Bill Belichick may be a potential replacement option if team owner and general manager Jerry Jones decides to dismiss McCarthy.

Belichick’s 24-year tenure with New England came to an end last week, and Belichick’s tenure with the Patriots came to an end. Dez Bryant, a former receiver for the Cowboys, put an end to the rumors that were circulating on Sunday evening. Bryant stated that the Cowboys were interested in bringing back former running back Ezekiel Elliott for the playoff run, but that Belichick had prevented them from doing so.

Elliott was released by the Cowboys after years of diminishing performance, and he signed a one-year contract with the Patriots, which is led by Belichick, during the offseason of the previous year. During the 2023 season, the former Ohio State standout continued his on-field decline in New England.

However, Jones has been a fan of Elliott for a long time, and he is one of Dak Prescott’s closest friends. Therefore, a reunion could have made sense, even if it was just to bring Elliott back into the team’s locker room during the most crucial part of the season.

However, for that reunion to take place, Belichick would have needed to dismiss Elliott from his position with New England, which finished with a record of 4-13, which was the worst record in the renowned head coach’s tenure. It would appear that Belichick was unwilling to release Elliott, even though the Patriots were eliminated from playoff contention a few weeks before the end of the season.

According to NFL Network, Elliott was still present at AT&T Stadium for the game that took place on Sunday. He was reportedly sitting in Prescott’s suite.

If Jones decides to move on from McCarthy during the offseason, it is quite probable that the successful Cowboys owner will select his new head coach with Prescott in mind. This is especially true considering that the quarterback has just had what is considered to be the best season of his career and is under contract for several years.

The fact that Belichick has never been a quarterback-oriented coach, even while future Hall of Famer Tom Brady played for him in New England, could be detrimental to his candidacy. This is not only because Belichick has been against Elliott returning to Prescott but also because Belichick has never been a quarterback-oriented coach.
